Questions & Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
We fabricate a range of custom dental appliances including: hard and soft night guards for bruxism, dual-laminate night guards, occlusal bite splints (stabilisation and anterior repositioning types), custom bleaching trays with or without reservoirs, and essix-style retainers. All appliances are custom-fabricated from accurate impressions.
For most appliances, an accurate alginate or vinyl polysiloxane impression of the relevant arch is required. For bite splints and night guards where occlusal balance is important, a bite registration and opposing arch impression are also needed. Please specify the appliance type, material, and thickness on the prescription form.
Standard turnaround for night guards, bleaching trays, and simple appliances is 3–5 working days from receipt of impressions. Bite splints requiring occlusal equilibration may take 5–7 working days. Rush turnaround is available on request.
Appliances should be rinsed under cool water immediately after removal and cleaned gently with a soft toothbrush and mild soap or non-abrasive denture cleaner. They should be stored dry in their protective case when not in use. Hot water should be avoided as it can distort thermoplastic materials. Patients should bring the appliance to every check-up appointment for assessment.
Minor repairs such as cracks or small breaks in hard acrylic appliances can often be repaired in the laboratory. Please send the appliance with a note describing the damage. Flexible RPD and Valplast appliances have limited repair options. A replacement may be more cost-effective for severely damaged appliances.
