Flexible RPD

Flexible Removable Partial Dentures are fabricated from thermoplastic nylon resin (Valplast or similar) that flexes with the natural movements of the mouth. This eliminates the need for rigid metal clasps, making flexible RPDs virtually invisible and highly comfortable.

Flexible RPDs are an excellent choice for patients who are concerned about the aesthetics of visible metal clasps, or for those with metal allergies. The biocompatible resin is stain―resistant and durable for everyday use.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Our Flexible RPDs are fabricated from Valplast, a biocompatible thermoplastic nylon resin. Valplast is FDA-approved for dental use, highly flexible, lightweight, stain-resistant, and comfortable for the patient. It is available in pink gum-shade or clear (for anterior aesthetics) and comes in multiple thicknesses for different clinical requirements.
Valplast and similar flexible nylon materials cannot be conventionally repaired with acrylic adhesive. If a Valplast appliance is cracked or broken, it typically requires replacement. Minor polishing adjustments can be made chairside with appropriate polishing tools. This limitation should be discussed with the patient before prescribing a flexible RPD.
The appliance should be rinsed under cool water after each meal and cleaned with a soft toothbrush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner. Valplast should never be soaked in boiling water, bleach-based cleaners, or alcohol-based solutions as these can degrade the material. Overnight storage in cool water or dry in its case is recommended.
Unlike cast metal frameworks, Valplast RPDs do not typically include metal occlusal rest seats. The tissue-borne design means that occlusal load is transferred primarily to the soft tissue and ridge. For cases where abutment tooth support is critical, a cast framework partial may be more appropriate clinically.
